ABOUT
As a sculptor, Julia is deeply fascinated by the interplay of form, textured narrative within her work. Each piece she creates is an exploration of how physical material can convey emotional depth and tell a story.
Growing up in Indonesia, she was immersed in a vibrant tapestry of art and design that ignited her passion for creativity. This inspiration led her to pursue a Fine Arts degree at Jakarta Art Institute, she also had an opportunity to participate in an artist residency in Europe, further enriching her artistic journey. In the late 90s, she moved to London where she continued her work as a sculptor. This transition allowed her to explore new influences and techniques, further shaping her artistic practice.
She currently lives and works in London.
STATEMENT
Julia’s pieces are an embodiment of her experiences, emotions and observations throughout of different phases in life. Describing her sculptures as abstract and symbolic in nature, they explore two sculptural methods : Relief and Three - Dimensional Form.Each piece tells a story, inspired by perceptions of nature, urban life and people.Julia uses clay and wax to create her sculptural models, subsequently casting the pieces into bronze material.She creates vivid textures through form and sculptural depth to personify the real human emotion in everyday life.
